ABS I again
« on: June 02, 2019, 08:51:29 AM »
The ABS and tail/brake light red lights are blinking constantly now that I tried about eight ways to reset. Before I starting messing with different methods to reset, when riding I could hit the ABS switch and both lights would stay constant on for about ten minutes, then start blinking again in unison, poke the switch again, constant on for both. I don't have time now to troubleshoot the issue, but am thinking about pulling the ABS relay.
Question: From a reply posted on this site, the poster said ( I think ) after pulling the relay, the tail/brake indicator stays lit until the brakes are applied, then it goes out.                   Is this correct?

Thanks
Steve

If you are talking about the tail/brake indicator located in the instrument cluster, yes, as you describe it, stays lit until the BMU module "sees" each brake applied.
This is a normal function and should not matter or care that the ABS relay is installed or not installed.

So,, ABS I, both the ABS and the triangle brake/tail light were blinking all the time. Remove both ABS relays, ABS light out, brake/tail on constant, use both brakes ( in shop on c-stand) triangle brake/tail light blinks. All connections in tail lights perfect with dielectric grease and new bulbs.
Also tried with one then the other ABS relays in with all the same result.
Question: Does the bike have to be under power and moving for the triangle light to go out?

Great board, thanks

Thanks Laitch, I am aware of how the ABS is supposed to work, similar to my 00 RT, and the sold 96 K11LT. I was questioning if the bike has to be moving to clear the tail/brake flashing triangle  dash light now that the ABS relays are removed.
