Aftermarket temperature gauge and sender

Hi all, i have fitted an aftermarket temp gauge and sender to my 1985 k100 (sender fitted to drain plug), my worry is that the sender probe extends 10 mm into the drain plug hole - could this affect the flow around the pump??
