During the mid-life refresh of my 75K, '93 K75S I decided to check the valve clearance to see if there was any significant change since last year's need of more exhaust valve lash. At that time I ordered my shims from an on-line dealer and fixed that issue for about 1/2 the price of the BMW shims thanks to a link from a MOTOBRICK.COM member.

This time I went to the local Honda/Kawasaki/Suzuki dealer to get a couple of 29mm shims. They gladly swapped out a couple of shims for me but I found that although they appeared to be the same size they would not fit properly in the bucket. They also had a slight chamfer on the edges which is not like my others. What I found out is that Suzuki has 29.5mm shims while BMW, Kawasaki, Yamaha all use 29mm. They readily swapped out my 29.5mm shims for the proper ones and the tech said that there were many who have been burned by the wrong size shim, especially one requiring a 29.5mm and using a 29mm.
Bottom line is that the 29mm and 29.5mm look the same by eyeball but for us we need the 29mm.
