Skyline Colors
« on: October 22, 2011, 10:24:45 AM »
Quick blast on the Skyline for some autumn leaf peeper color capture on the GS.

Power-line trail was interesting to say the least. Harder to go down than up in certain sections. Ha, one steep trail terminated at a locked gate, read a real bitch to get turned around and head back uphill.

Check out the stone Lazyboy chair Johnny. Relic of a depression era CCC camp.  "Too much time on my hands" Styx song rings a bell in my head

You're right there are lots of "Skyline Drives" in the US.  Probably like trying to track a ride in "the Outback" in OZ. Based on DrxBMW's locale, I'm pretty sure he is referring to the skyline drive area in Williamsport. I grew up in Pennsylvania and did a lot of riding in the mountains and Susquehanna River valley during the early fall.  While most people think of PA as big industrial cities like Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, for those of us from the middle, the state is really smaller towns, farm lands and mountains.

If you click the link below, then select the 3-D icon in the upper right part of the map you'll get a flyover of the area he's probably talking about. The first part is boring since it's just city streets, then it transitions to the actual skyline drive area. Will give you kind of a feel for the area and is way cheaper than a Quantas flight.  :D

BINGO, Brick Flyer wins a prize for pinpointing the correct location.

Note all the state forest land surrounding the drive for ADV expeditions.

Skyline is only un-locked during hunting season anymore. Hooligan behavior, illegal dumping, etc. have ruined it for everyone. However if your savvy, there are trails to circumvent the gates.

Water company tract is right next door. FANTASTIC off road, just do NOT get caught trespassing. Ha, the water warden is a ex Marine who is highly skilled in tracking. He prides himself on arresting those who challenge that fact. One is allowed on the mountain bicycle if you register at the office. Pain in the ass, as I enter the land parcel from the eastern boundary line.

Busted two years ago for crossing at reservoir lake catwalk. Small talk with the warden resulted in a warning and my name being placed in the black book of offenders, oh the shame.

Thanks for that most informitive.
Pity that many places get closed of because of the few who cause such damage. We have similar problems here and I have always found it fun getting chased by the rangers who usually have 4x4s here so it is easy to evade them.
