1992 K75 RT Side Mirror Removal

I took all the farings, etc off and made my K75 a street bike. My cousin in CA wants these parts I removed. I am going to ship them to him. I want to remove the side mirrors so that they do not get damaged during the trip out. There are 3 locknuts holding each mirror on. When I turn the nut the entire bolt turns. I read in the Chilton Manual that they slide up and off. The manual says to use your fist and hit upward and the mirror will slide off. I tried this and it does not work. I am afraid if I do this too hard I will crack something. I am bad about breaking things when I hit them too hard.  Any suggestions?

These mirrors are made to "break away"... if you look closely at the picture, you can see the "sockets" (and they look corroded by the way)  which fit over pins that are mated to the bracket you're trying to remove.  By carefully smacking the "Towel Wrapped -hint hint" - mirror housing with your palm they should dislodge from those pins.....

These are subject to corrosion over time and they may be frozen because of.....a little WD40 soak may help before your remove them.
