Brake Hold Module.
« on: May 01, 2018, 11:18:56 PM »
Hi. Has anyone installed a Brake hold module on their K100? I recently got my bike, and I scored this device which flashes the brake light. Here is a pic. of the wiring diagram.
This seems like it would be pretty easy install if I knew which wires to hook to. Any recommendations would be gratefully accepted.

I would advise caution with this for 2 reasons...
1, cutting the existing brake lamp wiring will wreak havoc with the lamp monitor feature of the bike, meaning it may not work properly if at all.
2, the speedometer pickup sensor may not have enough output to drive both the speedometer and this module.

You can try it, but have my doubts that it would work correctly on a K-bike.
There are some brake lighting enhancements on the market that are K-bike compatible.

I have this on my '97.

and I have these on both my bikes rear turn signals for extra visibility.

Other riders have dressed up their bikes with all kinds of LED enhancements.

What you have there is called a taillight modulator. Some of us have them. Yours seems to be a Signal Dynamics. Kisantech also makes a popular model and j o has posted about one of his in the Repair Guidance section.

Some of these gizmos have been mounted successfully. Motobrick member mlytle has mounted a Skene on his K75 although. The Kisantech will work, but changes the action of the bulb monitor light, to which Scott_ has alluded. I like the bulb monitor feature so I don't want interference with it. It works well.

Where you tap into your ground and 12V wires depends upon where you're putting the module. Some fit in the tail cowl. Some will even fit within the taillight itself. There are just two wires. You'll see where they attach if you open up the taillight. You'll be able to identify the wires using a multimeter or wiring diagrams here.

Personally, I dislike bulb flashers, both front and rear.  The Run-n-Lites Scott mentioned are all I use.  I have also added some red LED lights to the blank sections on each side of the tail light assembly.

Drivers are not expecting your brake lights to flash.  When your brake lights flash they actually confuse the driver for a moment delaying their reaction.  Safety studies have found that it is the change in light intensity that the driver responds to.  You want to have as much light increase as possible when you hit the brake.
