Well, the odometer on my'95 K1100LT decided to crap out on me :dunno . It was laid up for 5 months during the winter and I'm fairly certain that during that time the little gears inside were destroyed by moisture or something of the sort (maybe the lubrication that comes on them from the factory?).
Anyways, I am familiar with odometer gears, the website that sells these small 4 gears. I'm totally fine with forking over the $85 for a new set since it will most likely be a permanent fix, but I have some questions.
The repair manual indicates that you need to actually remove the whole fairing to take out the instrument cluster. I've heard some folks say that with their k75 they were able to remove the cluster without removing much else of anything. Has anyone had any experience with this on the K1100LT? I'm just wondering if I will be able to access the required bolts and bits to remove the unit from the bike to then go ahead with disassembly and replacement of the gears. I'm not too keen on the idea of taking apart the entire fairing on this bike. . . It seems crazy to have to have to go through all the work that the manual suggests to get at the instrument cluster. . .
Let me know if any of you has any tips or experience, thanks!
