Number 1 coil melting

Let’s try this again
 So all the sudden the #1 coil (closest to the front of bike )  melted so I got a couple off EBay and hooked 1 up and sure enough
It started to get hot as ish  the other 2 seem to be fine not hot at all . On this bike I only hooked up a spedo and plugged everything back in that was unplugged when I removed the frame , anyone have any ideas ? I’ve checked plug connections

Sounds like you might have a pinched ground wire. By design, the 12V+ is supplied to all 3 coils constant when the key is turned on. Then the ground lead runs from each coil to the ignition controller and is switched on/off based off the hall sensor inputs.
If you unplug the controller, measure the ground wire of each coil, it should be an "open" circuit. If not, you need to locate the fault.
Coil #1 switched ground lead should be Black/Blue, the 12+ lead should be Green/Yellow

Thanks Scott. Good info !  I was kind of thinking the same thing about a short or ground might of forgot to scrape new paint off under a ground some where. Damn well here goes the fun of tracing wires !
