Mirror Glass k100rs, asking again
« on: July 24, 2017, 02:17:35 PM »
Looking for the right side mirror glass to a 1985 k100rs, could also use the reflector as well, but would be happy with just the glass.

They're in the UK, inquire first for availability. I've purchased from them before (new and also used parts) and they are fast and the transactions are trouble free, and, of course, they ship to the states....

If you have the backing plate out, just take it to a glass shop and have them cut you a piece to fit. btdt.
The glass mounts to the plate with 2 sided tape.

Go to YouTube and find Chris Harris's video on how to remove mirror glass.... I've had to do this before and i would reccomend you tape the glass before you start... Glass shards manifest!!

I'd be surprised if Motobins actually has this part to ship unless they have used ones-- it's been unavailable worldwide for some time and there doesn't appear to be a supplier or manufacturer.

But the Germans are on the trail of getting some made up in Asia. I'd be interested to know how many people are in the market for this part, maybe I can feed that info back to the guys involved in this effort in Germany to boost the demand count.

If anyone has a demand for this part, please post here.

I'm assuming nobody wants to get a new one cut due to that fact that you loose the convex mirror. Would it be possible to get a larger convex automotive mirror or glass either new or from a motor wrecker. Then take to a proficient glazier and have them cut it down.

I am using a flat glass replacement at the moment and though it is better than nothing it is only just better than nothing!

I had that done.  The glazier cut it out of a side mirror from a pickup truck.  Worked a treat.

Gryph I'll ask the question even though there are heaps that could be converted. What model PU and how much did it set you back for the cutting.

I don't know the model, it was one he had lying around with a convex glass.  According to him, the convex curve is pretty similar across almost all mirrors.  As I recall, he supplied the mirror, cut it, polished the edges, and glued it into the holder for $18US.  I don't know how he made anything on the job as he spent a good half hour with it.

BTW, he wasn't an auto glass guy.  He had an"art glass" shop that did custom windows, stained glass work, and such.  His specialty was making and repairing church windows.  As I recall he had a wet bandsaw with a diamond blade to cut the mirror.

this is really cleaver guys...My mirror shattered in my recent shunt, I'll inspect the part, I may be willing to live with a few scratches if it means I save $40 and still have a convex mirror.  Cheers.
