Blowing fuel pump fuse

Had the bike (85 K100RS) out for the first time in hot weather this weekend, and had hot tank/boiling fuel issues for the first time. So insulating the tank and lines is on the to-do list.


On the trip home yesterday, the bike blew three fuel pump fuses in roughly 100 miles. Finally switched to a 15 amp, because it was all I had, and that got me home. Pump and filter were new last fall. Have new lines waiting to go in (will install when i do the insulating).


I'm guessing the hot fuel may have had something to do with the fuse blowing- pump drawing more, ect. Other than insulating, and checking all electrical connections for resistance/corrosion, is there anything else I should be looking at?

A few inmates had the same problem, they rectified the problem with a new pump. A Chinese copy of the OEM available on Ali express for around $30.00 US. I am about to order one from  https://www.aliexpress.com/item/for-BMW-K-Ducati-K75-K100-K1100-K1-1983-1997-BOSCH-16121461576-16121460452-0580-463-999/32784411992.html?  They look to be an actual manufacturer.

what pump when into it last year?  could be bad pump, could be a wiring problem somewhere (have you cleaned out the tank connector for the pump?)

If there is a Harbor Freight handy you might want to pick up one of these handy little testers:

Take some measurements with and without the pump connected.  That may help you learn if it's the pump or the wiring.

Pump is an EnDuraLast from Euro MotoElectrics. Had absolutely no trouble with it until this weekend, which was A. the longest trip I've taken on the bike and B. the hottest weather I've ridden the bike in. Perhaps the pump was damaged by the heat of the fuel.


Cleaned the tank connector last fall, but I should do it again. I have a small ultrasonic cleaner that I can probably submerge the plug in.


Shoot, the town I was visiting on my trip (Harrisonburg, VA) has a Harbor Freight store... and I was there, twice. Have to pick one of those testers up on my next trip.
