  I just bought a 91 K100RS (my second BMW in my life) that has been very neglected for the last 5 years so a full service has been started . I actually like these kinds of projects and I'm leaning towards making somewhat of a naked bike , similar to the new heritage line . I look forward to drawing on the knowledge of other members because I hate to pay for something I think i can do myself . This seems to be a great site and hats off to all who help build it . :2thumbup:  Whosyurdaddy

welcome!  I'd get the thing running and decent before modding it.  The RS is an incredibly versatile  ride, once you start stripping parts off it becomes more focused and less practical.  And it's resale value drops to zilch.

Welcome from western New York!  That's a sister ship in my avatar.  Chicks(my wife) really dig the way it looks.  You might want to reconsider stripping yours.  It's an awesome machine as it is.

...and +1 on value going to zilch.  Stripped/cappuchino, bricks seldom sell for more than $1200 on eBay.  That is about halfway between a parts bike and a shabby but running stock bike, and a bit less than half of what a decent brick goes for.  Put your time into making the stock bike pretty for the best payback.

I'm usually the purist when it comes to cars and bikes but for some reason I want to do something different . I have many things to do before I get to a final decision and as far as value goes I have no concern what the bike ends up being worth . I'm in it for the fun factor . If I do change anything it will be reversible . Thanks to all

And so you should! At stock, it is one of the most uncool bikes ever conceived. Strip it and sell off the parts. Make it lean and mean, or empathetic—wherever your heart takes you.

Haven't we tossed around the idea of a cafe forum :deal: somewhere all these like minded individuals can get together and discuss how to hide that gas tank seam after the bodywork falls off?

   Sorry everyone no parts sales are gonna happen and as far as the belly pan I wished I had one . According to the PO (get this) "A" screw fell out while riding and the  belly pan fell off , now I'm not real smart but i'm pretty sure there's more than one screw holding it on . This is the level of care this bike has had for the last 5 years , luckily the PO didn't put a lot miles on the bike . I'm kinda afraid to find out why .

LOTS of bikes never rack up many miles.  It's no reflection on the bike, just a multitude of excuses to take the car instead.
