fast Idle
« on: October 02, 2016, 07:28:21 PM »
took bike for first "real" test ride after completing maintenance. Rode from Mobile to Pensacola, Fla. and back. About 160 Miles round trip. I noticed two things; once I got off the interstate in to city traffic and and red-light bike idles at about 1300 RPM, also, under sporting conditions, when de-acceleratien, bike backfires. the bike came with some aftermarket exhaust, Remus? And finally, the speedo must be showing way slow, indicating 80MPH on the interstate at about 5200RPM everybody but the tractor trailers, passed me.Anyway to measure with smart phone what actual speed is? Other than that bike performed flawlessly.

 K75's do have a habit of backfiring on overrun and does no harm. This can be reduced by setting the TPS switch correctly ( method posted)and setting the air fuel ratio mixture by either using an exhaust gas analyzer or using the lean drop method ( method posted). Riding habits can also effect the backfiring make sure you fully close the throttle on overrun. As you get used to this idiosyncrasy you learn mostly how to avoid it

Use the Beaufort scale.

all smart phones have GPS.  lots of free navigation/speedo apps that show speed.

5k rpm is about 70mph in 5th IIRC.

do a complete fuel injection tune on the bike as the first step to any running issue.  TB balance, idle set, fast idle set, throttle cable adjust, TPS adjust, mixture adjust.  all detailed in forum or in your clymers manual...which you have of course...

Forgot to say adjust your idle to 1000 rpm. When have set the idle speed to 1000rpm press the green start button and the revs should just rise slightly if the mixture is correct. If it drops or rises significantly the mixture will need to be adjusted.

The exhaust is a Sta-tune. The backfire on a K75 will happen more frequently if you have the throttle open ...slightly on deceleration. If you roll the throttle closed there shouldn't be any real backfiring. When I rode it, downshifting , I was quick on the shift and matched rpm's, if I were just decelerating to a light or coming into a corner, I would just close the throttle. There are definitely small idiosyncrasies about the K75 like Martin said

Sounds like mine except for the aftermarket exhaust.
