1991 K100RS - Start Issue
« on: June 11, 2016, 01:15:49 PM »
Hey all,
I bought a 1991 K100RS yesterday and drove it 2hrs with zero issues last night. Today I wake up, take the cover off, and the damn thing wont start. Any thoughts? NOTE: Headlight comes on, all lights come on. Previous owner tells me the battery is 1yr old.

Here's a video to better describe the issue:

greetings...

thanks for the video... better than saying my moto wont start... whine whine whine...

every battery in a used moto is just a year old...  now stop that... will cause whack... whats the voltage of your battery...

proally bad battery = wont take a charge... or bad alternator = wont charge the battery... loosey goosey connections... or something is sucking the life right outta it overnight...

butts stop that hitting the start button with a whack battery...

take the battery out... take to your local autoparts store and have them put it on the tester... when they tell you its whack thank them and getts a proper moto battery in there...

bonnerbeamyard...
motobatt...
odyssey...

doo your doo dillergence... may need terminal kit to accommodate your connections...

Personally,my first check would be the sidestand switch. After that basic checks i.e. is there a spark(which will check the switch),is there fuel delivery from injectors?.If you rode it without issue/noises for a couple of hours and then it won't start you are  generally looking for something working loose,a vacuum pipe splitting or electrical/electronic gremlins in my experience.

Check the ground connection from the battery to the frame.  If this is your lucky day, it will be whack.  Clean it, put it back together, hit the starter and listen to brick music.

If not your lucky day, follow instructions above about removing battery, etc.

UPDATE:
It ended up being a dead battery. The previous owner ended up contacting me back and letting me know that he left it attached to a trickle charge 365 days out of the year, which was likely the culprit  :dunno ... He was awesome and purchased a new one for me immediately.

Thanks for all the assistance!

Good day for all ..

I have a brick k100RS 4V 1992 with a problem with the fan !

When I turn the key on the fan starts to work, even with the coolant temp sensor plug off !! And just off  when I pull out the relay .
I think it will be a problem on the Motronic !!
Has anyone experienced this before ??

Thanks a lot

Welcome, Alex.

Introduce yourself in the Welcome To Motobrick section. Post a photo of your bike in the Klassic K-bike section. Tell us how long you've owned it, how many miles you have ridden it, how many miles are on the odometer and what type of maintenance you've done on it already. Put the year of your bike in your profile so it will show up in every post you make, like you did with your Fat Boy.

Start your own thread in the Workshop section. This thread is finished and you'll get more attention if you start your own. I think your bike's problem might have a different source than you think.
