WTB ~ Brake pins
« on: September 04, 2014, 06:16:50 AM »
More things to replace after wire wheeling them to 'clean them up' during the resto. Again, for anyone reading this who doesn't know better -- don't do that, ever.

So the pins on all three of my Brembo 95 k75 calipers are rusting badly and will never slide properly again. Fortunately, the pads are nearly new.

I need all four retaining parts for all three calipers. That means the two slide pins, the retaining pin and the retaining clip, X3. These things are tiny enough to drop in an envelope for $.50. Will send self-addressed envelope...

Thanks for any help...Van

So the brake pins should be replaced? I usually spin them in a drill and hold a piece of steel wool till they clean up.

Update -- the pins looked to be badly rusted but still had no problem sliding out of the caliper. I don't know if they are cadmium coated like the bolts but in retrospect I wouldn't do anything abrasive that might remove any rust-inhibiting metal coating on the brake pad retaining bits. They started rusting like crazy as soon as I wire wheeled the grime and corrosion off of them.

When I replace my pads I smear Coppercote grease lightly on the back of the pads. I also put a light smear on the pins and retaining spring. I have never had a problem with corrosion, but then we don't salt our roads .
