You are correct sir. I am trying the road timing method. I saw and read both those posts and others. I advanced it about half that distance and got no pinging or knocking that I could sense so I wanted to "push it" to see what would happen. I will probably "chicken out" and put it back where it was.
It was getting pretty sluggish below 3000 rpm. It seemed to be firing late? But I don't know shit from shinola. Also I have a ton of carbon all around. Tail pipe. Spark plugs. So with this machine being a technological abomination, and me being a neanderthal. Well, lets just say it is hit or miss for me. I can't afford to bring it to a shop, and don't have the know how, or tools to address it properly. I am learning and trying. I haven't been able to check the compression, but it burns no oil to speak of,(a couple of ounces every 1K). Idle is a little stumbly, but not awful. It does get a rumble, gargle just over 3500 rpm. I am determined to do it all! So the long and the short is I know the fuel/ignition needs some attention, but I am just not sure how to tackle it. And it runs pretty well over all. My concern is am I damaging something? And to really decarbonize an engine means taking off the head. And how would you decarbonize the pipes. I should start by getting a fault code reader I guess? Ahh and the list goes on! :dunno
How much is the bike in Ferrisburg? :hehehe Who knows how long before I kill this one!
