K1100LT windscreen - Repair discussions including the micro switch are scattered about. If you look hard across multiple forums ... and are patient with uneven use of keywords you may eventually discover that the BMW E34 (5-series) and BMW E32 (7-series) car sunroof motor is a direct replacement for the windscreen motor. Screws, gears, wiring, connectors, micro-switch, etc. all match. I purchased a used one - with a warranty - from a BMW used parts car dude for $21 including shipping from eBay. Worked perfectly and was in pristine condition. In my case, I traced and tracked all potential issues using the great advice posted by others. Bottom line - the micro-switch failed and this was a clean, easy, fast and economical fix. Keeping the original motor as a spare.
Handlebar micro switch for the front Brembo brakes - The RadioShack catalog SPDT model 275-016 works perfectly. Screw holes align out of the box. Use the two outer terminals and solder connections. Then slightly & carefully bend the switch arm upward before mounting and you end up with a perfectly operating switch that allows brake diagnostic and brake lights to operate as new. Cost: $3.49 vs. $54. I'm buying a second (another $3.49 out of the wallet!) as a spare to throw in the spare parts box under the assumption that it might not last as long as the original. If this low cost is bothersome or worrisome, Ducati's and Guzzi's use the same Brembo set up and can be purchased for roughly $35.
Maybe one of the forum's smart folks can add these two items to to the "Alternate Parts" list.
