H2O Tested: Avon Roadriders
« on: August 17, 2015, 07:09:10 PM »
I spooned on a pair of Avon Roadrider tires this spring and have been impressed. I really haven't seen much rain on my outings this year to give them a test. I went to the Baxter open house rally this weekend in Marne IA and had to be home Sunday night, no questions. I left the rally in bright sunshine but soon saw the storms in the distance. They grew from gray, to dark grey, to black. I stopped in a rest area to check the weather radar on my phone and the news wasn't good. It was only going to get worse, if I left now I could ride for 45 minutes or so and be out the other side. My K1100LT jet ski worked great (it always does) but I was grateful for the Avons and how they handled torrential rain and water sitting/running on the highway. Yes, my butt was tightly clenched to the seat but there was no drama, no OMG! moments. It took me over an hour to get to the other side of the red and purple blob on the radar, which was quicker than the cars parked under the overpasses, wimps!

I recently replaced a set of Sport Demons with Avon Roadriders on my K75S and like them very much.

This was after going through two sets of Demons and using the Avons on my 91 R100RT.  I just wanted to try them on the brick and have found them a bit more responsive but the real test will come when I take a trip to the Blue Ridge this fall.

Just wondering if you have further feedback on the Avons yet? I'll be replacing the Sport demons for next season (from age rather than wear) and have Bridgestone and Metzeler as alternates so far.

I like them better than the the Sport Demons, they feel more planted in the turns to me.

If they wear like those on my Airhead, I expect the same life as the Demons.

OK (and thanks) - a couple of good reports on the Avons then ... any other feedback out there?

I use road riders on my rd350 s and love them better than the Bridgestone battle axes.
