WTB Air intake manifold

I need an air intake manifold for a 1991 BMW K1
This parts plugs into the bottom of the air box and is item number 11 on the parts fiche.

Search out in project bikes ... some member cafe'd a K! and has a lot of K! bits and as he ditched the intake setup may be that part is available

While searching for a replacement would it be possible to repair the original. A competent plastic welder might be able to carry out a satisfactory repair.

Once the type of plastic is determined, pieces can be cut out of a sheet and welded in. I suggest you take it to a plastic welder and let him have a look. You have nothing to loose at this stage.

And where do you find a plastic welder, Don? Contact a heating/ventilating contractor. You could also try repairing it using epoxy resin on fiberglass cloth strips shingled over the holes then finished with sanding and painting. It's arts-and-craftsy fun for sure. You could eventually end up making kayaks and boats if you're not careful.

Thanks, Don. I'd definitely try the resin/cloth method if a replacement or welding doesn't happen. Give it try on some plastic of a similar density; it'll cost you under 20 bucks for enough supply to repair that, a truck's rusty, perforated cab corner and a few other choice metal or plastic relics. Rubber gloves, ventilation and a temperature above 50ºF are essential. It can get smelly and messy so the kitchen table or prime living space won't fly for this project.

Laitch, that intake is made of either polypropylene or ABS.  Either way, fiberglass won't work on it because it won't stick.  Almost nothing will.  Welding or stitching with fine stainless fishing leader are probably the best ways to go.

Well, if it won't stick then the he-manliness of plastic welding as emphasized by the music would be the way to go.
There are a lot of choices out there for ABS repair, Don. I think you'll come out of this for way less than the cost of an original part. Certainly worth a try.

I saw a week ago that max could get them from Germany.a used one will work just fine as will mine with the unsightly duct tape.

If you feel compelled to do something, Don, you could always upgrade the tape and spray the whole assembly with textured coating as camouflage.
