thanks for the video Rob , looks like too much 4 me . tell me about the consequences of not greasing splines?
I suppose it depends on how long you plan to keep the bike...but difficult shifting can occur due to a lack of grease on the clutch splines.
From my understanding, when we K-brick people talk about lubing splines, it's mostly for the trans output shaft, the driveshaft, and the final drive. As I understand it the trans input shaft and clutch disc hub don't suffer from wear and aren't as critical, and take a lot more time and effort to get to, but then again I replaced my clutch disc because the splines in the hub were getting close to shot.
I'll expand a bit as well,,, for the older monolever bikes 75's and 100's both sets of splines(final drive/drive shaft and transmission clutch input splines) are critical for keeping lubricated properly.
On the later bikes with the paralever drives, the transmission output shaft and the final drive input are both a 'circliped' connection, so lube is only necessary for assembly purposes as when the paralever flexes the shaft movement point is the drive shaft middle spline joint.
BMW also started to build the later transmissions with a harder clutch input shaft(either different hardening process or different material, not sure which), this still requires lubrication, but just not as often as the older ones.
