My running lights stay on when key is not in contact. As soon as i turn the bike on day go off and stay that way. I.ve also noticed the blinker relays are a bit slow. The bike has been sitting for 4 years before I got it.

What to look for ? what to try ? It,s a K75 1990

I think I'd start by pulling fuses (under left side cover) with the ignition switch off to see which fuse causes the lights to go out, then work backward from there. Has any previous owner modified the electrical system? The ignition switch is a pain to remove because the harness connectors are I believe under the fuel tank, and I think the turn signals are controlled electronically...

Have a look at this http://www.motobrick.com/index.php/topic,6223.msg41512.html#msg41512 thread in this forum to give you some other ideas...

had a look under the tank and checked all connectors. Everything looks ok there.Still the running light in the headlight and rear stay on.
I have to disconnect the battery every time.

Turn the ignition switch one more step counterclockwise.....the steps is: off - park - on.
If the park still stays on, you have a short internal in the ignition switch.

It's normal that you can withdraw the key when the ignition switch is both in park and off position.
(you should have three steps in the ignition switch)
Park/tail should be on both when the ignition switch is in the park position and in the on
position (as long the light switch is on).

the light switch is off and the light still stays on. The light goes off only when the key is in on position.

With no key in the light does not go out no matter what you do to it.
When you decide to ride, you put the key in on position and then you have no more running light.

Just checked my '91RT, Park lights come on at 2nd switch position, 4 way flashers can only be turned on at the "Start" position (headlights on also), when you turn the switch back to the park position, 4 ways and park lights both on, when you turn the switch to off position, the park lights go out but 4 ways still operate (key out). Think Inge is on the right track, start looking into the ignition switch for problems. I do not have a separate switch to turn on headlights, they come on automatically at start position, and are on as long as the machine is running, but definitely off when switch is off whether the key is in the switch or not...
