Easy Busted Cable Fix
« on: September 14, 2011, 11:15:45 PM »
i carry generic cable ends and a length of aircraft cable one size smaller diameter than the oem cable... 1/16 diameter usa...

when i had a cable break... i slid the smaller diameter cable through the existing cable jacket... then affixed the cable ends and adjusted it all up...

i used it that way until i could swap out the old oem with a new oem... about a year later n it was still good...

the whole deal is less than $5 usa and easier to pack than a spare oem...

here is what the cable ends look like... available at hardware stores n autoparts stores...

round at the top lever... hex at the bottom lever...

can be loaned out to any moto broke down beside the road... can save your day... can make you a hero...

I second that motion, awesome idea. Thanks J.W.W., aka Jo, aka B.Mc.B.F. (that's Bullet McBleedy Face, for the un-discerning).

Good idea! I suppose it maps to something like this for us scandinavians.

What's your plan when the hand lever end of the cable breaks?  (which does happen)

Carrying a spare throttle and clutch cable in the bottom of the tail cowl takes up very little room.
Once I had a Collie pup. Dug a hole and covered him up. Now I sit there by the hour. Waiting for a Collie-flower.

another trick, stash your spare right next to the functioning clutch cable.  When the one you're using breaks on the road, just swap in the one next to it.  2 minutes and up and running again.

Just be sure to cap both ends with some of that handy dandy silicone tape to keep the road grimme/rain out.
