Winter Riding Aprons?
« on: April 01, 2015, 03:51:13 PM »
I'm here in France, in Paris, and in love with every K and R bike here -- as well as every bike we can't get in the USA -- and I am also in love with getting a Winter apron for my legs like everyone has here in France.

I have a 1995 K1100LT and really need to get one by Autumn of this year so I can be ready for l'hiver. Anyone know of any? I can't find any and I want just one. I already have the very last set of Hippo Hands every to be made by  le World Vintage Motorcycle Sales Co. and now I want to add a body muff, a moto apron -- what every single 650cc scooter has here en France à Paris.

And a really nice one, too.

I have even see officially-sanctioned BMW Motorrad aprons on an R bike here.

Any advice. I would even be willing to comission one -- maybe someone who makes bespoke tanks bags can take on the challenge?

Merci beaucoup à l'avance.

I'm kinda wondering how they are better than a rain suit.  Look like they could be a PIA in stop and go traffic when you are putting your feet up and down from the pegs.

Oh god, best laugh I've had in some time. Thanks Johnny!

I'd have to try, but I have my doubts about it.

I'm leaning to heated vest and chaps as a better solution.  But I find the K75 RT to be plenty warm, and keeps the clothes clean and dry.  Just cooks the rider at above 80 F.

They come up on Ural forum, usually called lap robes, people seem to like them, cumbersome looking things

Here's 3 possible sources

Yeah, but what do they do that a rain suit won't do?  I don't get it.  And yes, they do look clumsy, especially in stop and go traffic.

I ride all winter long. City riding. I have hippo hands. Might be great to have something that could keep me out of a snowmobile suit and in just my Aerostich and jeans when I pop around the city. I'll give it a go this coming Washington, DC, winter (not too bad) and give you a report.

Plus, I like that it covers the bike and seat while I'm not on the bike to prevent water and snow from even pooling on it. I love that I might be able to spend my money here in Virginia, too.
