The Motobrick.Com Club is more rewarding than the other two combined.

I have been a member of both. I don't think one is better than the other, but they are different.

I've been to one MOA national rally & one RA national rally. The MOA rally had three times the number of attendees (over 6K) and maybe four times as many vendors than the RA. The RA had more Harleys show up. Not worse, just different. I saw a lot of the same bikes in the vintage show, and saw some of the same people at both.

The magazines are quite a bit different (my opinion). The MOA "Owner's News" (monthly) has a lot of ride reports, usually very well written, and I think more articles. The RA "On The Level" (I think every two months) has a lot more pictures of events, but also some good articles.

You can join the MOA and get the first three issues of the Owner's News and cancel your membership before the three months are up and owe nothing - so you can try it out for free. Since the MOA offers a digital version of the magazine, you can also look through (or download as pdf) the last five-years' worth of magazines. The MOA also offers the Flea-Market for members to sell stuff, and a pretty good forum. The RA also has a forum. The MOA publishes the Anonymous Book every year which is a listing of MOA members who will help you out on the road. It can be worth it's weight in gold if you have a problem a long way from home.

Our local BMW club, East Texas BMW+ Motorcycle Club, is affiliated with the MOA, but no longer with the RA. The only reason we dropped the RA is because we didn't have enough local RA members to qualify as an RA club (you need three). We only have about 15 members total, and six or seven are MOA members. I've been an MOA member for three years.

When an MOA member's membership expires, they delete all that member's posts from the MOA forum. I think that's ridiculous.

there was a time when you had to go to the ralleys to see what they were selling in the magazines and to meet others with similar interests and to develop relationships with these folks for wrenching or friendship or whatever...

that time may not be gone all together butts its greatly reduced because of the internet... the modern era...

these days... all those things from the previous era can be had online and more...

so... the moa and the ra are experiencing a decline due to an aging membership... if it wearnts for the gs their memberships would be infantile...

a friend went to the recent moa deal in orogoon... she is early 50's... she left after 2 days although she had paid the sherpa for 3... why you ask... she said she was one of the younger folks there and felt like the whole scene was for the old geezers who were ralley goers decades ago...

i have belonged... butts not for years... even though i could still post on the moa forum... i was targeted like tim tior last year... it was reup or they would delete everything i had ever posted... that was brilliant... f them...

I am with Johnny, I belong to BMWRO here in Oregoon as Johnny puts it.  Even they are struggling, but they put on a great three day event in John Day Oregooon that features lots of great rides, food and discussion!  But they are having trouble finding leaders.  If it weren't GS folks there would be no one.......

paraphrasing from G Marx: "I wouldn't join a club that would have me as a member"
i have belonged to both in the past, went to rides, rallies and meetings. never found a kindred soul.
this site beats them all! great info and most folks seem a bit off center which suits me fine. haven't met anyone in the flesh but hope to this year.
check 'em out.

It does seem that the Interweb has been positive for the sharing of information about the brand but has been a negative for the established mega clubs. I know that I would be a youngster in my local MOA affiliated club and i'm in my 50's, but I do look damn good. :yow
I may attend the MOA national in Billings next year as I'm only a days ride away and just to see what goes on and if it sucks the riding in the area will make up for it. The MOA deleting all the posts from previous members is one of the most infantile things I've heard.

"I wouldn't join a club that would have me as a member"  Haha, yep, I fit that mold.
