Rear Shock Mounting Question
« on: July 30, 2014, 11:00:43 AM »
Hi again,

My newly acquired k75 has the Progressive 465 rear shock. If I grab the shock in hand, I can easily twist it back and forth on its mount. In other words, the mounting bolts/nuts are tight but they don't hold the shock tightly to the mounting points on the bike. Does that make sense? Is it supposed to be this way or am I missing something?

Thanks

Are you adjusting it that way?

If I understand what you're asking, yes, I've adjusted the shock when it is mounted like this. Bike on center stand, no weight on the rear, I've used the tool to adjust the sag.

I am wondering if when I tighten the mounting bolt (nut?) all the way down, it should hold the shock eyelet (?) in a way that doesn't allow it to rotate at all. Am I missing some mounting hardware (sleeve, washers, etc.) that is supposed to hold the shock eye perfectly flush between the mounting point and the fastening nut? As it is, there is a little space between the fastening nut and the eye of the shock that allows it to rotate slightly on the mount. Maybe 10-15 degrees of rotation.

Thanks again

It's supposed to do that...

If you take the shock off, you will find a sleeve/tube inside the eye that you will be able to move, some (usually more expensive) have something somewhat like a rose joint while others have a rubber bush.

If it didn't do it, something would break - mounting points aren't always in line and perfectly square to each other or to the plane of movement of the swingarm.

Unless you can slide the shock sideways along the axis of the mounting stud/bolt or there is back/forth slack, it's nothing to worry about at all.

Thanks for the helpful response.
I'll check to see if there is any other movement but I don't remember that there was.
