Hi from Kent, England.
« on: August 26, 2014, 06:13:59 PM »
Hi all,

Just purchased my first BMW, a K1100LT, 57k miles. Already planned a trip to France for the day next month.
Previously had a XJR1300 & a Blackbirds.

The only thing I currently cannot work out is I have a small rotary dial/switch to the left of the map reading light. I have turned it both ways thinking its for altering the brightness if the clocks but it isn't. Any suggestions?

Great site though.

I had one also...wasn't hooked to anything...I thought it could be a fader knob if you had back speakers...

Thanks for the replies. I can see how it could be for a fader dial for speakers, although I don't have a stereo fitted.

Homebrew temperature control for heated grips? If so, would better than a resistive wire running through the loom.........

Whereabouts in Kent ?
I used to live in Gillingam, then moved down the A2 to Eltham up till 2006, when I moved to the South West.
I do miss the roads up there.
Used to meet a few friends at the Oakdene for a cuppa and bacon roll, before heading down to Box Hill.
Happy days.

I'm based in Sittingbourne, previously Gillingham and before then Surrey. Spent all my youth at Box Hill when Rykas was just a caravan.
I've had a feel behind the dial switch by removing the map lamp but I can't feel any wire going to it but definately looks factory fitted.

This is it,  it turns nearly one complete turn but I can't feel any wires behind it although I think I can feel 2 terminals on the rear.  It definatley looks factory fitted but the bike has never had a radio fitted.

Welcome
Was in Hythe, in early 2003 for a 10 month assignment.  Love the roads there....just wasn't confident enough to rent a brick and ride around (American traffic patterns permanently burned into my brain...hahaha) the beautiful country roads there!
