Are the ABS senders interchangeable?
« on: June 12, 2014, 12:22:15 PM »
I'm talking about the cannister-shaped part of the ABS, that bolts onto the brake caliper: Can they be swapped front to back and model to model?
The wiring connectors are different but if the actual units are the same, I could just cut and solder the 2 wires?

If the part numbers are different, they are not interchangeable.

Not true!
The connectors are different, the length of cable is different: I am trying to find out if the actual bit that does the work is the same as others.
When I got my bike, the front sender/sensor that bolts into the fork leg had been gapped incorrectly, so that it hit the ABS ring on the wheel and bent it: I bought another and rather than take the bike to bits in order to get to the connector, I cut and spliced the 2 wires underneath the mudguard filler piece, and after resetting, the warning lights went out!
My question is, can the sender unit from another model be used? they are physically identical, I've measured them with a digital micrometer, all they do is read the speed of the ABS ring passing below, its the other parts of the system that activate the anti lock function.
