K100RS 16v rear shock question
« on: April 26, 2014, 03:40:10 PM »
The rear shock on my 1990 K100RS 16v(30.000ml) is non adjustable and seems adequate at best,a good friend has offered me an adjustable damping shock from a similar mileage 1993 K1100LT for next to nothing.Question is would it offer any improvement:present shock is Bilstein,K1100 shock is Showa.Provided I keep power on & corner smoothly I can manage OK with present shock and it does not leak but ripples/bumps upset the rear of bike whilst front end still feels "planted".

Yep I think you are right I've heard they are good.I'll give them a phone:the link you gave(thanks!)has a 2005 date at bottom & shows a tax rate of 15% when it has been 20% for a while so I hope they are still available

The Showa is not rebuildable.  The Bilstein might be.  My guess is that both are dead.  If you want to spend as little as possible, then ask a shop about rebuilding the Bilstein.  Best option is get an after market shock.  There are plenty recommendations here on the forum.

Also the K1100 shocks may be longer than the 100 shock if your bike is not new enough to have the paralever.

I've put one on my LT as I wanted/needed more ground clearance.

AFAIK K1100 has same shock length(380mm ?) as K100 16v which as you have pointed out is also paralever, thanks for the input! From what I have gathered up to now:there are no good original shocks & I should look to best aftermarket.

IMHO the RAM shock seems to be best for the money and is what I will put on when I get around to going to the paralever rear end I have waiting...
