Oil over the top?

I did my very first oil and -filter change today. Everything went fine I believe (although I almost left the gasket from the old filter in there...). I filled up new oil (mineral 15w-50), ran the engine for a minute, and topped up almost to the max level. Then I went for a little ride, and when I checked the level again it appeard to be somewhat above the max level...  I also noticed the engine struggled a bit at idle, and it didnt use to do that.

So, should I be worried? Can too much oil cause the idling struggle, or perhaps I put in thicker oil (don't know what was there before)?

Your oil should be somewhere in the site glass, preferably at the dot in the middle or slightly above it. 15/50 is a good viscosity to use so you're O.K. there.

Congrats on your first oil change.
I, also, have noticed that putting in the amount specified puts the level over the  top of the glass.  Not sure why, but now I put a bit less in.
Probably is not a problem being so high but if you are nervous about it, you could loosen the drain plug and let a bit leak out.

Yea, the manual says 4 quarts but that's too much. Maybe you didn't let the oil settle long enough?

The manual specifies 3,75 litre...3,55 is enough to reach the maximum level.

REFILLING THE OIL AFTER A CHANGE:  Once you have your new oil filter installed, don't just read the owner's manual specs and pour that much in. If you haven't done so already, put the bike up on the center stand on a level surface. Slowly add oil until you can see it in the sight glass and fill it slowly until it's about at the top of the sight glass.  Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to fill up the oil filter.  Then turn the bike off and let it sit for 5-10 minutes to let the oil drain back into the sump.  Then add oil slowly until it's about 2/3 to 3/4 of the way up the sight glass.  Go for a ride and then be sure to check the sight glass again the next day and top off to the 2/3 to 3/4 level in the sight glass as needed.

This is just what I did, except after the ride it appeared that the level had gone from almost at the top of the sight glass to slightly above it. I suppose the most logical explanation is that the spots where I parked the bike weren't perfectly level... guess I'll have to inspect a bit closer and then take out a bit of oil.

Found a certifiably level spot now and took out a desiliter or two of oil. Lesson learned: Park on level ground for the next oil change.
