LED headlights
« on: August 25, 2016, 12:50:25 PM »
Anyone have experience mounting LED headlights on a K100RS? Which brand do they like and why?  They've come a long way.  I run them on a vintage GoldWing and they're 2x-4x brighter than stock halogen.

Zipster,
"H4 6000K 24W 9003 HB2 Motorcycle Motorbike " from Amazon for $30 today. I hope to kill two birds with one stone here, better light output and less stress on head lamp electrical circuit.

This is a statement I made on another forum a few months ago. Long story short 10,0000 miles later lamp is doing just fine. I got 2 lamps with shipping for that $30 and still have the the second one as well as the original lamp tucked away with my tools and spare fuel pump (I feel better having that when out on a trip)in the tail compartment. I try to avoid riding at night but am not petrified as I was to get caught out at night and as a added bonus folks that I ride with say it is more visible in the daylight.

Aside from the light output how is the pattern with the Bosch lens and reflector ?  The stock halogen lamp has a small origin for light but the COB LEDs are much bigger ,,,,  I'm concerned about glare to oncoming traffic  :dunno2:

Here is what my setup is looking like. 3 Led projectors with a cutoff pattern in the projectors installed and installed in a slightly different angle each to get proper illumination (not enough to be noticeable visually but the light pattern is better than that of the old round headlight I had on temporarily) with help from a friend here who does custom headlights. . They have Hi-Lo-and a sort of on but modulated brightness like some harley davidson's I've seen. They are waterproof and can definitely be seen and I used them on a previous build with no problems whatsoever. Can be bought on amazon. I have yet to mount them for sure but I mocked them up to get the angle and cutoff pattern right.

Bill,
It is not to bad on low beam and some light output leaks out the side so if you do more city driving it could be annoying to on coming traffic. The high beam is simply blinding to on coming traffic. I would like to find a light that has a better pattern and from your post, does the light element need to be closer to the base to work well with stock housing?
BTW the currant draw is 2.6 amp on low and 3.2 amp on high and the halogen lamp was twice that.
