Rear brake caliper rebuild kit sourcing?
« on: September 10, 2024, 08:50:54 AM »
Hey everyone, I am getting some brake rubbing so I believe it is time to rebuild my rear caliper. Does anyone have a current link for sourcing? I see a couple of different kits sold some with different parts.

Thanks!

What do you believe is the cause of the rubbing?

I disassembled and cleaned and polished my caliper (on an F650, but looks very similar) and put it back together, bled it, and no more sticky rear brake! I did buy the kit for the master cylinder because I thought that was why the brake wouldn't release properly but I got sent a kit that did not fit, so I carefully took apart, cleaned, and put that back together first.
One other possible cause of sticky brake is brake lines are toast. Allowing compressed brake fluid into the caliper but not allowing it to back-flow.

+1 on the bad brake line.  30 year old rubber is long past it's best by date.

Thanks for all the replies,

The bike is a running project :idunno: so I’m slowly refreshing everything one step at a time while trying to keep it on the road as much as possible. I am replacing the master cylinder and brake lines too, however, I am having trouble determining which rear caliper rebuild kit to buy. I’m thinking my main issue is just a sticky piston/ piston seals. I bled the brakes and that helped a little but there is still just enough rubbing that the rear rotor is slightly too hot to touch after a couple miles. But there are likely some contributing factors in the rest of the system too; ergo upgrading the master cylinder.

I see two variations of the rebuild kit and just want to purchase the correct one (they sure do charge a lot for some o-rings and bolts):

Get the Euro Motoelectrics kit. You can source washers and a cap locally, if they're needed.
