Lenn0x84 - Here to stay

 :mbird Hey ALL.. :mbird

Been in love with 2 wheelers as long as I can remember, but unfortunately I started life drift racing cars (Not that is wasn't fun, but you only do what you can do). Only owned a Suzuki RGV 250 (VJ21) in my past, but went toe-to-toe with a variety of cars and Honda firestorms, CBR 1100's and a harley or two. Was fun but being a 90kg Australian/Italian, the RGV was a little small for my liking. After a "break" I've decided to be the proud owner of a 1985 K100RT, but of course I've striped off the fairings, and blew/broke the last engine (180,000kms, old cop bike), in comes the donor, 40,000kms, was involved in a death of the last rider as he couldn't make a corner which cost him his life but bad juju wont stop me from grabbing an engine in good nick for my own project.

Heres a link to my drop-box of photos filled with original ebay ad photos, photos with full fairings as I was getting it RWC'd and then after I pulled about 50kg of fairings off the beast. A lot lighter on the front end and now the speedo sticks out like dogs balls, but I've got a plan to lower it so it's not as prominent.

Got a few plans for this ride, already inpressed with the delivery of the power, not the biggest fan on the rear suspension so far but I've got a Koni on ther that I can't figure out which way is up and need to play with the Dampener to really experience  what it's capable of. Time and practice will tell.

Anyway looking forward to the future of the build, for all those not a fan of the nakedness of the bike I'll accept any constructive criticism of the look and will consider sound and genuine suggestions but please do not get on a soap box the state "You've ruined the original look and I think BLAH, BLAH... Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I enjoy a naked body with the muscle of the BMW 1000cc engine in all its glory. Especially once I've got to polishing the brilliant metalwork of the great design that is the K100.

Looking forward to everyones input and ideas and will upload as many pictures as I can as time progresses and hopefully with your input I'll create a unique and charismatic bike with you all which most if not all of us can appreciate and show the public as proof that old never ages but matures and is always teaching the new guys how its done.

To a fun future of muscle, style and down right speed.....

Bruno

:mm Now thats a nice example.

The engine on this is what I'd like to replicate, and it's interesting that theres the 3 spoke wheels as I'm thinking about putting them on mine but needed a good example like that to make up my mind. The bars on mine are rs though and I love the real close feel and look, it gives more bigness to the top end of the bike. I'm going to take a welding class near the end of the year as I want to make my own, the original's too quiet and long and heavy for my taste. The other big idea I've got is to shorten the rear cowling, but still keep it a twin seater, not a cafe racer design just a little less block like and give it more angle at the back with intergrated tail and turn signals.

Welcome to the fold!

You are obviously an intelligent and discriminating individual as exemplified by your selection in motorcycles!

I too got an '85 this year - an RS minus fairings.  165K miles but engine replaced ~40K ago w/one that had 5K on it then.

I was looking for a bike big enough for my 5'11 250 lb frame and wife to ride around on and didn't want a chain and didn't want a cruiser or a great deal of weight.  After investigating and missing out on a GREAT deal on an '85 that was in parts but had everything powder coated, I ran across the one I have now.

One or more of the previous owners has put a Progressive shock on the back and had a National Cycle windscreen on it

There are some driving lights and LOUD horns on it.

I have taken the windscreen off as well as the Type I tragkorbs.

I have purchased a '91 K100 RS4v engine and complete drive line and forks w/43K and am saving my money for a good rear shock when I will swap tranny back for the Paralever setup.

Saving sheckles for 3 spoke wheels and a swap to radials - have the front 4 piston calipers already.

I bought the 'c' type fairing and if I decide to use it will need to get the windshield for it.

I have bought a 7" headlight bucket and will be mounting that hopefully this holiday weekend - eventually to put  LED headlight into it, but for now a Cibie Z beam that I have 2 of and the other is going on my '75 RD350.

Looking forward to your build
