Gearbox shifting
« on: July 04, 2013, 11:04:10 AM »
So, some good news on my bike front. I changed the oil in the transmission, put in Spirax 80w-90. Surprisingly finding plain old regular organic gear oil was a real challenge here, I ended up having to go to the shell bulk plant during the week to get some. Seems everyone is carrying various types of synthetic. My bike sure shifts way better now, like a new machine compared to whatever oil was in there before. That part is a mystery as I just bought this bike about a month ago. I'm pretty happy with this outcome, slips from one gear to the next nicer, so far haven't be caught between gears at all, way less clunking into gears, including first which still has some.

yeah, the stuff in there must have been really old, contaminated or the wrong oil.  Mine liked the Valvoline synthetic I put in last year, noticed an improvement in shifting and less ka-chunking.
