Decided to clean up the lower forks on my '88 K75S today, remove some old state inspection stickers and road grime. The forks and triple clamps all appeared to have been bare cast metal since new, however after removing the side reflectors on the lower forks it revealed black paint. Now I believe the lower forks were black when new and the triple clamps were bare. The black paint either wore off over 90k miles, or someone scrubbed it off all of the visible surfaces, mostly.
I am kind of torn between painting the lower forks and the brace at the top of the lower forks, between the front and rear fender pieces, as they were originally (my preference), or cleaning it all up and leaving them bare (probably more practical since the paint is liable to wear off rather quickly I'd think). Opinions, experience?
Thanks.
ETA: I forgot the whole reason I posted was to ask what paint what you recommend for the forks.
