HID
« on: May 28, 2011, 10:08:27 AM »

Anyone ever play around with H4 HID ballasts here ?

flea bay has the below for a fairly good price.

F bike has the H4 bulb setup like the older K's.

I installed dual relays for the headlight last week.

HID idea certainly is intriguing.

with proper wire size these catz bulbs are gonna blow away the chinese 90/100 5000k...

I call boochee - and I'm gonna prove it in July.  Even in the wimpy S headlight my cheapo Fleabay Chinese 90/100 will make your boochee look like a dying birthday cake candle.

I just installed a PIAA H4 super bright bulb in my K 75, looks almost identical to the Catz.

duuno, bulbs are probably all manufactured in China, only the brand name changed.

BTDT, I worked for for a battery plant back in 70's. Different day/different brand.

these catz bulbs are hand crafted in japan... the same craftsman from beginning to end... uses the highest grade glass... double wound filament with the highest grade metal... has twice the xenon gas as the next best halogen of any manufacturer... the coating is so special they keep the brew in a vault..

I have a HID setup on my 86 K75S and love it. The transformer is under the fairing strapped to the instrument "weight" and the install is a simple plug and play. The bulb is a 5k so the light is white without the blue tint.

As to the scatter, well there is a little more than a stock headlight but I have not had a single driver flash at me. To me, the setup is well worth the light output.

Hi, Motoyuki,
We don't care about your "poor English".  You ARE writing to this forum in English and we understand you.  I can speak about 10 words in Japanese and have no idea at all what written Japanese says.  So keep writing in your "poor English" and if I have a problem understanding you, I'll tell you!  Welcome to the forum!

It must work if they measure the output in K.

Just kidding.  Welcome to Motobrick.com.

Those only put out 130/120W of light.  The PIAA Intense Whites put out 135/125W of 4100K light.

I would probably avoid the flea bay units and look at DDMs.  I have had a set in my New Fangled Motobrick for a couple of years and love them.  And still cheap .. er ... inexpensive.

I have high and low beams ... high takes a bit to warm up when you first turn it on, but flicking it high to low and back for on coming traffic it is fine. Honestly make my "high powered" PIAA units nothing more than eye candy.

+1 on the DDM units.  I have had one in my 1200LT for a couple of years now,  One caveat, it would appear that they are now manufactured and shipped from China now.  I recently ordered one for my RS and when I realized I never picked the bulb temp. (color) I played hell trying to get the order corrected the next day.  Took about 10 days to arrive but the quality appears to be the same.

I just upgraded some Hellas with an H3 kit from DDM.  Got to choose the bulb temp on their site when placing my order and got what I ordered. (4500K)

The Chinese did mess up the zip code though so the package had a two day detour to Vegas until the USPS called me to get things straightened out.

From poking around on the web I'd expected the HIDs to take a sec to come on but instead they light right up.

YMMV.
