K75 odometer
« on: March 23, 2013, 01:59:43 PM »
my 1992 K75 is up and running after years of neglect. All systems good except the odometer and trip not co operating, the speedo is working ok. Any words of wisdom gratefully received.

99% chance it's plastic gears gone bad in the odometer.  They are replaceable, but a little pricey.  Maybe someone can chime in with a link.

Just came back from a ride on my '85 K100RS. The odometer and trip mileage has stopped working. I will read the above posts more closely too. I want to fix it.  :dunno

cmichael,
My 86K100RS had exactly the same issue with broken gears.
I took my instrument cluster to Hamp's Speedometer in Atlanta this past weekend & he quickly pointed out the 3 failed gears.  He said it was a common failure in this vintage BMW bikes.  He had one of the gears in stock & said he would have to order the other two.  He said he would put it back together & bench test. I expect to receive it back in the mail for less than $200.
You did well buying the gears & replacing them yourself. ~HCurrier

Thanks for the good advice on repairing my odometer. I purchased an instrument cluster from e-bay for 41 bucks. it was from a wrecked bike, housing and lens were broken but everything inside looked good. Took my speedo apart and the large orange colored gear had 4 teeth missing. Replaced it from my donor cluster and odometer and trip work fine now. Its a very simple repair once you have the parts.
