Euro Switch?

Hey Guys,

Got a question about the Euro spec right hand combo-switch. Its the one that allows you to turn off the bikes headlight or can be wired to switch your driving lights on and off.

My question is:

Is the "headlight on-off" a straight forward plug-in feature with the factory U.S. harness or will I have to do some splicing on the harness?

And yes, I know that the handlebar on-off switch that Eastern Beaver sells would also work but, imo, the factory switch looks cleaner.

I run them on all of my bikes to operate the parking light and headlight as they are designed to do.  Despite the load shedding relay, the bikes start easier when cold with the headlight and parking lights turned off.

It's a straight swap if you plan to use it as intended for the headlight/parking light as the parking light/headlight wiring is jumped to be always on on the switch side of the connector for the non-Euro switch.

To use a Euro switch for aux lighting you'd need to do some re-wiring:

a) Jump the headlight and parking light wiring to be always on.
b) Hook up the wires from the headlight switch to your aux lighting.

There's also another version that's wired differently for use on police bikes which have their own unique aux lighting needs.

Even the later police bikes used the civilian wiring. When they stopped calling them LTIC I think that's when they standardised specs

As already mentioned, new from BMW works.  I see them on eBay quite regularly when someone starts parting out a bike.  Most look rough, but last year I scored one that looked new for $20 shipped.  I doubt the seller realized/cared it was anything special though.  I'm guessing the unlucky previous owner of the wrecked LT I got mine from had just recently upgraded.

And the install is indeed a simple plug and play swap for original unless you are modding the controls.
