Advice for a parts bike
« on: January 13, 2013, 12:32:36 PM »
Hey guys, I have a 94 K75 as my personal bike and I'm looking into getting a 92 K75 parts bike priced at $1000.

The guy says as he got the bike, it had water in the oil and a broke can shaft (sp*for cam shaft?).  It is a complete bike and I only plan on keeping the seat, instrument cluster, fairing piece and front headlight assembly for myself.

Big question: Could I get my money back out of it?  And how long would it take me to part out the rest? (either on here or on ebay) I don't really want a pile of parts in my garage forever.

Thanks

As someone who has parted a few Ks:

It's a lot of work and takes a lot of time - disassembliing, organizing, emailing, finding boxes, shipping, etc...  You can get your money back but you have to earn it.

If you sell stuff on eBay and price it right then you can get rid of some parts in a week but it's a lot of work to set up all of the listings for the separate items and both eBay and PayPal take a chunk out of your hide for every item you sell.

Some parts will sell fairly quickly: fuel pump, fuel level sender, side covers, etc..  Others won't so you will end up with a fair amount of parts hanging around for a while.
Once I had a Collie pup. Dug a hole and covered him up. Now I sit there by the hour. Waiting for a Collie-flower.
