OK!! I know its not a Brick and I WARNED HIM!!!! BUT.........My house mate recently bought a 2005 f650gs with 2250 miles on it for his GF. Drove it home. It ran fine. Took his GF out riding it. She dropped it 2xs from a standstill on both sides and drove it home. Now all of the sudden it won't start.
All the electronics appear to function. I turn the key and push the ignition button, the starter turns, piston cycles and nothing.
Heres what I've done thus far.
1) System reset by disconnecting the battery and the brain.
2) Pulled sparkplug. Its clean and sparks when the ignition is fired
3) pulled the airfilter out and shot some ether into the "carb" intake. Nothing
Here's what I've found. After disassembling the air intake and removing the air filter I noticed a fair bit of oil in the area behind where the air filter sits. This is a paper filter and doesn't appear to be the type which needs to be saturated with oil.
This puzzled me and doesn't seem right. So I attempted to start it again. Same result. However, there was a distinctive WHOOMP-WHOOMP sound as the piston cycled followed by a gurgling noise after I ceased pushing the start button.
I am wondering if perhaps some oil seeped into a space it doesn't belong when it was dropped. It also sounds like its not getting fuel to the injector. I checked the lines and fuel appears to be running cleanly to the point of the injector.
Does anyone have any ideas what I should do? I think I've related the all the symptoms and attempts to restart. I may very well have missed something in the sequence.
Im really stumped by this. I have 2 older Kbikes of my own and can do 80% of the wrenching and trouble shooting myself on those, but I am FAR from a competent mechanic.
Also, we are trying to avoid $75/hour costs at a local beemer shop. this SHOULD be simlpe! right?! ugh...
