I would like to attach a 12-volt socket to the handlebars, switched to the ignition. The anti-theft socket in the relay box (white socket in photo) is available and the green to green-yellow provides ignition-switched power. Does anyone know how to use this socket without cutting it off? Are connectors available? Or can anyone suggest another source of switched power I can tap into? Thanks.

Update -- my photo has repeatedly failed a security check. The connector mentioned above is round, female with 4 wires. It is tempting to simply cut it off and use the wires but I would rather leave it intact,if possible.

John,

I think there's switched 12v on both the special equipment and alarm connectors in the relay box.

I don't know how hard it would be to find mating connectors, but I cut my alarm connector out and spliced into the wires.

Just recently I realized that the wire I was tapping would lose power when the high beams were switched on so I re-spliced into one of the special equipment connector wires (#1 ACC).

how many amps you gonna run through that socket...

proally oughtta be of proper wior size and fused...

butts thats just one motobrickers opinion...

the way i wiored my 2nd socket was up the wire size to 1st socket... tap off that wior for my second socket... put it all on 30amp fuse in the oem fuse panel...

If you've got room in your relay box, it would be pretty easy to add another relay for high-amp use.

Grab the unfused 12v from the backside of the starter relay, add a fuse, and use the 12v from the special equipment wire #1 to switch the relay on/off.

Thanks Tim and j o. Exactly the info I needed. It is only to run GPS and keep phone charged. The 12-V socket comes with a 15amp fuse in what I hope is adequate gauge lead wire. - jl

Yes, that will work fine.  It is exactly what I did.
