The "Mulligan" of motorcycle karma...
« on: August 24, 2012, 12:21:19 AM »
Several days ago I posted about a  '88 K75s I was about to close in on. We had a price, a pick up date ,and all seemed well...Until...the owner called back the day of the sale closing to say he had changed his mind and decided to re-list the bike and try to get his original price (It was $80 more than what we agreed on.) Well, I liked the bike - great mechanical shape and good but not great cosmetics. Still, we had made a deal so I wished him well in selling to someone else (OK my fingers were crossed, but he couldn't see over the phone).

The next day, the seller called back to say..after further review, etc...he would take the money we originally agreed on as well as knocking off an additional $50 for pain and suffering. In the end, I turned him down (too much soap opera) and decided maybe this wasn't the time.

Later that same day, I spotted a craigslist ad for a '93 k1100rs. The pictures were tiny and the bike didn't show well, but it looked like the seller was motivated. It was a ways from my house (70 miles), but I have a good wife willing to drive as long as we mixed it in with a hike in the woods. The bike was in amazing shape, both mechanically AND cosmetically. For $500 more than the k75, I got a great deal! I'm still grinning from the ride home tonight. I really liked the 75 ride, but this bike seems to fit me better (6'2" 230) and boy does it go.

When I used to play golf (another lifetime) we would sometimes allow "mulligans" - a do-over after a horrible tee shot. This is my motorcycle "mulligan" and I'm much happier with my second drive.

Thanks for the site. I have already gotten a ton of good information.

Remember, golf is game, not a sport.

I'm sure you'll be happy with the RS. :mbird
Once I had a Collie pup. Dug a hole and covered him up. Now I sit there by the hour. Waiting for a Collie-flower.

 :2thumbup:

I almost closed a deal on a mechanically awesome K75 before looking at the '94 K1100RS I have now. Looked at the K75 on a Friday and picked up the K11 the following Monday. I'm SOOOO glad I waited. The seating position on the K75 was nice but that extra HP at the back tire makes the K11 a winner for me.
