So,...... I Finally decided to check out the final drive on this '93 K1100RS, and it's going to be expensive I would guess. The senerio:
-- For some time now, probably 2 years......... :loopy:......... I have had an issue with the speedo "trigger" ring in the final drive coming off it's mount and just slowly moving with the oil viscosity. I actually could coax it back onto the mount through the pick-up hole, and it would stay there as long as there were no sudden inertia changes, like maybe winding 2nd into 3rd............ And then it would be No Speedo for awhile again. Oh well.
-- Then, when doing my normal preflight, I noticed I could feel just the very slightest play in the rear wheel when grabbed top and bottom and rocked. I knew this was not the way it used to be, Rats!
-- Next, I noticed an intermitent 'roar' that I could pick up at about 3,000 RPM in 5th. Estimate 45 MPH, ( no speedo remember ... :hmm: ). This noise was hard to pick up at other speeds, but with visor up in cruise mode, it seemed to be timed with wheel rotation. Probably not good. :dunno2:
last night I removed the final drive drain plug, which I should have done a long time ago, and it looks like it needs a hair cut !! So the drive is off the bike, and I have emailed Bruno for repair plans.
