Oil leaking from water/oil pump (not out of weep hole)
« on: June 15, 2013, 03:35:27 PM »
Hello Motobrickers,

I replaced the seals in my water/oil pump last year and now I am getting an oil dribble out of the hole in the pump casing that the oil pressure switch wire is routed through. Am I correct in assuming that this is a problem with the seal between the oil pump casing and the engine block? No oil is coming out of the weep hole.

Thanks!

You're correct about a leak between the oil sump and pump housing.
Keep the mounting surfaces clean, dry and oil free.
Use a sealant that can withstand the oil pressure (I've used Permatex black RTV).
Give the sealant time enough to cure, before starting the engine.

Also take note and be careful of the "half moon" oil channel on the block side as it's really easy to get too much sealant applied and block this opening.
I remember seeing a picture of this but can't remember where so I can't post it or a link at the moment, like all else it will come to me in time.........Old timers setting in...... :hehehe

Good point, Scott.........when this hole is blocked, it could be the reason that a leak starts in this area.

I have never been able to figure out where the weep hole is. Can somebody put up a picture that shows it?

Thanks, Bill
