I posted this in the Yard-sale forum, but thought i'd ask a bit more about repair options over here. here is the original post:
Hey All, I recently did a full spline lube on my non-ABS 1986 K75T and while i had the foot pegs off i noticed a crack in the foot peg plate around where the brake pedal axle is. (i'll post a pic a bit later as I was grease covered at the time).
i can notice a slight amount of misalignment in the pedal itself, as the bolt that lands on the brake switch is off to one side a bit (though still activates the switch so not a huge amount). What worries me is that i don't know how strong or weak everything might be. i don't want to be surprised in a 'oh shit' moment with my brake pedal falling off the bottom.
Does anyone have a spare plate for sale? or would you recommend taking it to a fab shop to reinforce that boss?
now reinforcement doesn't seem like too bad of an option. there isn't any interference issues so i can certainly beef up that area. not sure of the material, i'm under the impression that it is cast Aluminum, which would be "tough" to weld.
Where do i go to try to get this sort of work done? is this something a good shop should be able to do? a replacement would cost between $140 and $180 i think, though i need to find the correct plate (non-ABS, has drum brake. just not sure how these differences manifest in the part itself)
any help here would be appreciated.
