Mystery fork slider

Hi All,

I have a fork slider from FleaBay that I wanted to install on my K75S. When I bought it the listing said it was part # 31422312296 (http://www.maxbmwmotorcycles.com/fiche/PartsSearch.aspx?parts=31422312296), but the actual part number stamped on the slider is 31422312298 (see picture). From what I could tell it wasn't going to fit, so I was going to put it back on FleaBay, I but can't figure out what bike it goes to. Anyone know what the story is here?

should fit 93 and newer k75s...

you can go to http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do?kind=M&arch=0 and search by the last 7 digits of your vin... from there you can find the month year of manufacturer... then you can see what forks you are supposed to have on that moto...

Why not make the seller eat it? Wrong part # is kinda a big deal.

...because I bought it it about 2 years ago. The sad thing is that I originally stripped the threads by over-tightening the drain bolt about 4 years ago. It took me 2 years to order a slider and another 2 years to bother installing it...  :giggles (I guess I finally got tired of dropping to forks to drain the fork fluid.)

fill the hole with jbweld... drill n tap it... good forever...

JO, do you know why the *298 no. doesn't show up on the parts fiche or the RealOEM site for 1993 and later birds? Only the *296 no. shows up.

Thanks for the JB Weld tip - I will give that a shot next time I need to change the fluid.

Part numbers on parts don't necessarily match the parts catalog.  Forks, fork trees and a few other metal parts, not to mention seat pans.  I think what you see on the part is the casting mold number, not the part number.

The part no. was correct all along, I just ordered the later model slider by accident.
