Fellow motorbrickers

I was encouraged by a good friend to start my own blog of our travels on the BMW.  My friend Doc DeVore does all the administrative duties for the site and has set it up for me.  I'm the editor and writer, Donna does the proof reading.  This blog is still a work in progress, but I now have a few ride reports up.  Soon, we hope to a have a site link up for my photography - Doc kept telling me I should sell some of my photos ( the outdoor scenic landscapes) and he is fronting the effort to get this done.
But for now, drop by and take a look,  http://www.bikerjourneys.com
The latest ride report has us meeting Duck for dinner Wednesday night at the Grill a Burger in Rancho Mirage, CA.

Nice blog.  When I saw the picture of the White K bike in BMW ON by the Route 66 sign my first thought was "That looks just like CrapDealerBob's ride".  But I figured there must be a lot of white ones still around.  I had to laugh when it turned out that it was your bike. Great picture and nice to see a Motobricker in the ON mag!

Good stuf Bob! I know hwy 62 well, having spent many weeks being a rock climbing bum in Joshua Tree Nat'l Park. Looking forward to getting back to that part of the world on my Brick someday.

Right on, Bob! Are you continuing east from there, or would you be into a detour up to Taos? Our accommodations are rustic, and then there is the "driveway", but you're more than welcome.

Does one need a GS to reach the top of your "Killer driveway" TaosBricK ? LOL

Like Frakenduck, I've piloted my K 75 before on some really gnarly roads. Ha, you know it's bad, when going back down is more scary than up. Street tires are biggest obstacle.

On my bucket list is too downhill the MTB at Taos.

This is one of the worst sections of the 4.25 miles of "Ho Chi Minh Driveway"

If it's dry, it's ok, just not the most pleasant Brickin' you've done. My K75 handles it with aplomb daily.

If it's wet, FERGETABAHTIT!! Wet periods are when this goat path earned the name "Road of Woe" in our neigborhood vernacular. You would not be able to progress one inch before you and bike would be sideways and down. It's a very special kind of mud, of the sort you'd find in a special corner of motorcyclist's hell. Days like that I drive the 4runner. Even my enduro can't remain upright on dat chit.

So make sure you drop me a note and enquire about conditions - during crappy periods I have friends with whom yer ride can be left with in town, and we'll pick you up in 4wd transport.

The good news is that after most summer showers the road dries within a matter of hours, or at most in a day or so.

All I can say is, certain kinds of dirt do morph into slippery snot when wet.  Deep sand is another gotcha for the novice.

Willing to bet $ my GS "Warcloud" could handle the road of Woe with ease.

At least it's NOT elevated pitch and squirrelly mud to contend with.  If you look real carefully in the below picture, I'm about 1/2 way up on the right side on the gas well road. Trust me, it's NOT easy, all about throttle Vs clutch transition.
