wannabee rider definition ?
« on: March 03, 2012, 10:05:52 AM »
What defines a wannabee ?  Additional comments are most welcome.

Adventure, scenery, the ride, the getaway , I could go on for hours.

I see hardcore travelers are ones who travels for all and or any of the above. Wannabes for me are the ones who admire an image and wants to be it for reasons such as midlife crisis or other personality deficiencies

It is hard for me to relate to wannabee's. But I can understand where they reside mentally. It is not them that is different from the rest of the general population, it is US. The adventuring nomad is not the norm, but rather the exception. Wannabe's dream about being different, while we live different. The pressure to be part of the crowd is the largest factor in my eyes.

Summary: A wannabe is simply that. Someone who has the potential to do something adventurous, exclaims that they'd love to do something like it, but when the opportunity presents itself they balk at the challenge and turn it down.

I don't think of motorcycling as something many people sincerely "wannabe".  I think the term applies more to "wannabe" rock stars, ski racers, etc., where they may play music or ski and aspire to (or fake) a much higher level achievement in the activity than they
currently possess.  People who tell you you're cool (or any comment to that effect) because you ride are really talking in code.  What they mean is "you can risk your life for that thrill, but being on the road with a pavement full of moving metal with way more mass than yours is f**king crazy!"
They're just too polite to say it.  Otherwise, wouldn't they be doing it?  I mean its not that hard to get a mc license - and starter bikes can be had for a couple grand all day long....
just sayin, Doc.....

dunno, I've seen Hardley Ablesome folks first hand that are BIG time posers. Our neighbor spends more time polishing his Softail than riding it. When T shirts are the biggest sellers at a HD dealer boutique, can you say "image life style."

In Japan, middle age business men don black leather and fake tattoos for the weekend, comical.

Motorcycling definitely has cliques.

I consider myself to be a motorcyclist moniker rather than a biker.

True "hard ass" riders tend to be anti social/solo personality types. (me LOL)
