WTB - K100Rs fairing inner panels - sourced
« on: October 28, 2022, 09:20:25 AM »
Looking for all the inner panels including mounting brackets for the fairing on an '86 K100RS. Pretty much everything pictured and numbered on the attached parts diagram, both left and right of course.

As an update, I have sourced everything I need for my inner fairing panels except for the trapezoidal upper corner panels, and some clip nuts. Stockists list the panels for $25 apiece, and the clip nuts at $1,44 per, which sounds a bit pricey. Any other sources for these things?
Overall, the body work on this bike is a bit scruffy. It really needs new paint, or maybe even a new set of panels...

I have a 2nd generation RS fairing that is complete except for the knee panels and the mounts(which are still available from MaxBMW).  It is grey with a blue belly pan.  The condition is very good and could be easily repainted without needing a lot of prep beyond scuffing the original paint and priming.

You can have it all for $275, and I can meet you half way between Buffalo and RI to hand deliver it to save you the cost of shipping.

I also have C handle bars if you don't like the RS bars.  You can have them for $100.

Let me know if you need anything else.  I have a fair amount of spares that I would like to get rid of.

I will stick to my existing bodywork for now, unless I can find a full set within easy reach. My focus is on getting the motor running - a set of injectors is arriving today. I have all winter to sort the bodywork and I might just paint what I have. If I could only find those last trapezoidal filler panels and some clip nuts...

Oh, and I don't know what "C" bars are but the bars on my bike aren't original RS ones. They look more like a set of bars from an R100S. Although the RS bars on my old R100RS were getting too narrow for me, I may want to try a set of KRS bars just to see what they're like.

Scroll down in the link below for an image of C bars and its measurements. There are 2 images nearly at the bottom of the thread. The first is C bars and the second is RT/LT bars.

I have them on my bike. Here is what they look like in profile.

Here's a pic of the bars on my RS. To me, it looks like there is more of a gap between the crash pad and the switch mounts, but not as much rise as C bars. Who knows, maybe the PO just added extensions to the ends of the stock bars??

If you want to confirm whether you have C or RS/S bars on your bike look down under the switch pad at where the bars bend up from where they are  clamped on the top of the triple camps.

Are they bent to angle up to the grips or are they cut and have a welded miter?  C bars are bent and the RS/S bars are cut and welded.

S/RS bars are better for riding because they let you get your weight farther forward in turns.

Are you talking about item #26, the left and right covers that attach to item #12, the center cover? If so, have you tried Motobins or Motorworks in the U.K.?

On my side of the pond they are available from Max BMW for $60 apiece. A bit pricey, plus they won't match the 37 year old patina of the rest of the panels. I bought some parts from BMW Boneyard but he doesn't have those pieces.

I installed an OEM temperature gauge a couple of years ago with all the proper components. Of course it required the right hand panel with the hole in it for the gauge. It cost 19 pounds sterling.

You can adjust the handlebar angle and adjust the throttle/clutch perch positions to what works best for you.

I often wonder what my bike would be like to ride with RS bars as mine came with C’s.

Is this what you're looking for?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/303978576008?hash=item46c688f888:g:rw4AAOSw3vVgioD5&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA4Ga0%2Fg4TEOWDccZjyMSlQOxOgKZ0mFJpPZWL7ytG95oZpeeripE74t1RJi%2BuNGi%2FLjyeMjsf1EKWJkPJ4ylQVtRwsDPjJOulLvpOZXfeS9e6BIdNn9JXDtQicQe4JZmM7lzm7w1gHRLBJzSCb2PB2Lda1%2FuD%2BlEi9s2cv55SvUdzdwy4H4wKrBJ4aqpdgC3z6Yc5vh3JHPGY5d0I2Bs1%2FsMJySzywrbmF3c4eQqqJ9ig7JkO6cdAxkYk%2B4p7igkGDmIQ9C7rWe4KNHLdiEiapeJGM1GLZd18kKrTmqmSbzhK%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR7iEk7-RYQ

Exactly! They must've been a recent list since I've been watching eBay. I've gone ahead with purchase. I should get them 12/28.

Funny though, someone from my IBMWR WTB ad offered a full set of inner panels for $100, in my state. However, a Google search of their email address yielded discussion on a pinball machine forum about how the person is a scammer.

I will need a few clip nuts as well. I bought some at the hardware store but they are for thinner material. I'm going to see if I can re-form them to accommodate the thickness of the fiberglas tabs on the fairing, but if anyone has a good source for them let me know.

I often wonder what my bike would be like to ride with RS bars as mine came with C’s.

It rides much better in turns with RS bars since you can get your weight farther forward and lean your body into the turns much better. I tried C bars on a 4V RS of mine many moons ago.  Then I went for a day long loop ride with the C bars. Did not like them at all and immediately put the RS bars back on. C bars are good if you're a casual rider or if you like to ride in a straight line.

MaxBMW has the clip nuts.  Not terribly expensive as I recall, and I think they are for metric size screws.  Check their parts fiche.

Last I checked they were $1.44 apiece, though not sure what vendor. Just checked again and they're $.89 ish.
