For the best performance, the plugs should have the terminal nuts installed when using the OEM spark plug cables. The bike will run without them, but other owners have noted misfiring problems. In my experience, most aftermarket plug wires now work with the threaded stud without the terminal nut.
Some plugs have the nut permanently installed, while NGK provides plugs with a removable nut. A call to NGK USA tech service will get them to send you terminal nuts at no charge. You can also get them by going to any small engine repair shop. They often have old plugs that the nut can be removed from and used on your NGK's.
It's a bit of an inconvenience to have to save the terminal nuts off my old NGK plugs, but I don't mind because they offer excellent performance at a very reasonable price.
