Hi,
The gaiter where the clutch activator rod has split on my1987 K75S. There is some oil leaking from it.
Obviously it needs to be replaced.
I see on Motorworks parts there is the gaiter which I understand how to fit, fiddly but not too hard and doesn't seem to require too much dismantling.
There is also:
Clutch actuation pushrod seal | CLA51159
Fits K75, K75S, K75C, K75RT
Associated BMW part: 23211451159
Please note that these seals must be fitted with the lip pointing towards the back of the bike. If it is fitted the wrong way round oil can migrate down the pushrod to the clutch and it is not possible to fit the pushrod on the K75 model without damaging the seal.
My questions are:
What oil is leaking out? is it gearbox oil?
Is it just the gaiter that retains the oil and so that is all I need to replace? or does the seal above need to be changed? how do I do that? or is the leakage the symptom odd something more serious in the gear box that needs to be sorted? Transmission seems to be working fine and I am not keen to rebuild more than needed!
Although I do appreciate it isn't too hard to remove transmission and it would allow me to inspect and lubricate the clutch splines.
At present I have the front wheel off and will hopefully be fitting the new fork seals, some fork gaiters and a couple of new stainless brake pipes, and new brake pads. Dealing with the back was not part of the plan just yet!
Any help most gratefully accepted.
