Bulb Question
« on: October 02, 2020, 12:00:29 PM »
Are there any auto stores that carry our running and brake bulbs? While doing a spline lube I noticed that the bulbs
were burning the inside of the rear tail light

The tail light bulb should be 10W; the brake and signal bulbs are 21w. Larger wattage bulbs are likely to generate enough heat to start melting things eventually, especially the tail light's housing.

I've gotten these bulbs at NAPA, O'Reilly's, AutoZone, et. al.. Stock Brick bulbs in that category are single filament.

Also, when purchasing bulbs/lamps try to find the ones with nickel plated(silver) metal bases.

Those are the type that came from the factory.  They are less likely to experience corrosion at the electrical contacts so they won't get dimmer over time.  Generally, they are higher quality and last longer than the cheaper bulbs with brass bases.

There are suppliers on line like www.superbrightleds.com that sell LED replacements for automotive bulbs.  Many of these LED replacements have higher light output and generate less heat to melt lenses and housings.

Remember, if you use LED bulbs for the rear, it will confuse the BMU. The BMU will throw a warning light on the dash, indicating a burnt bulb.  You'll have to either ignore it or modify the BMU / tail light circuit to return to normal.  http://www.kbikeparts.com/classickbikes.com/ckb.tech/0.ckb.tech.files/bmu/bmu.htm
